The Wall

Somewhere in time, a girl and boy became friends. They were alike in some aspects. Everything's perfect except there's a wall between them. No one knew who built that wall. They talked through holes so little only sound pass.

The girl, tired of that barrier between them, tried chipping the bricks unbeknownst to her friend. Then, one day, the girl's efforts paid off. The section she's been working on collapsed, and the boy's face greeted her.

"What have you done?" he whispered, horrified at the sight of her.

The girl was confused. "I broke the wall between us! Aren't you happy? We can finally be together! We'll talk, laugh, play---"

"You've ruined the wall! It was there for a reason!" the boy shouted and began closing the gaping hole with bricks lying near him.

"No," the girl thought, "Why are you shutting me off?"

Tears fell from her eyes as the destruction she made disappeared.

"Now," the boy said from the other side, "what were we talking about again?" The girl swallowed her screams of grief and began chatting, her voice filled with fake happiness.

And they lived separately ever after. The girl, a bundle of unwanted thoughts. And the boy, unseen, unknown.

After all, they're strangers once again.
