"You don't need a wife who constantly thinks of death and all her depression."
"But, mom, you were fine with her before. What changed?"
"That was before I found out about her 'tendencies'."
"Mom, don't you se-"
"I made my decision, son. You must break the engagement off with her as soon as possible."
She faced her son, forgetting the tea she prepared for lunch.
"Son, you do know I love you and I know what's-"
"Yeah. Yeah. What's best for me. You already told me that my entire life, mom."
"Good. Then you understand my reason. Break it off with her gently. Girls like her tend to be over dramatic."
She squeezed his shoulders for a moment before going back to their tea, grabbing the cup that was filled with Lipton.
"No, I won't! I completely don't understand this shíte!"
The woman winced a bit, her tea dripped to the side of her cup when her son slammed on the table harshly. But the man didn't mind if it left a bruise later on. He would have to ask his fiancé to buy him some ice cream on her way home.
"Language, son!"
"She's a brave girl! Look, mom. She's had her depression when she was a teenager. She attempted suicide a couple of times, yet she's still here! Happily engaged with me!"
"Don't you raise your tone in this household, young man."
"Mom! You're not listening!"
"Think of your children. What would she set an example to them?"
"She would make a great wife and a mother!"
The woman tsked, apparently displeased with his answer. She set down her tea on the table.
"Really now, son. She couldn't even take care of herself."
"That's why I'm here for her!"
"Didn't you say that her depression has been there since high-school?"
"Yes, but wh-"
"And up until now, her tendencies are still there. Do you really think that you want a child just like her?"
He didn't dwell on it that much. His fiancé had been nothing but supportive and loving to him. He knew their child would receive that kind of attention just as much as he does.
He wouldn't let his mother get in the way of his happiness. They had been through thick and his mother knew that. And he was willing to sever their ties if he needed to, just to be wed with his significant other. But he knew -deep down, that his mother only wanted him to have the best.
"Well, I'm not just going to leave her alone in the dark when she clearly needs me. My decision is final, mom. I will stay engaged with her, happily. And I don't want you digging further into your grave."
The woman gasped loudly. Her honey blonde locks standing up as she seethes in anger. If her looks could kill, then her son would be a dead fish by now, floating around the toilet and waiting for someone just to flush him. But he remained firm and gave her a glare that would put hers to shame.
