Times Like These

Sometimes, I lay awake and wonder.

Taking my time, I try to ponder.

What once was, what could have been.

So many regrets that I don’t know where to begin.

I’ve accepted that it’s not possible,

A future together, it’s inconceivable.

No matter how much I want to take it back,

I can’t and that’s a fact.

My words for you would not come out of my mouth.

And that’s why I wrote them down before things went south.

I took a risk; I played a gamble.

And later that day, I asked if you would take the trouble.

To read out a story that laid my feelings true.

Without knowing that they were for you.

And afterwards, it just became a whirlwind

All of a sudden our lives went into a tailspin

We tried our best to take control

But as it turns out, we were in a freefall.

Spiraling towards the end.

We tried our best but the rules would not bend.

You’re someone that I loved from the bottom of my heart,

And despite my acceptance, despite the years spent apart

I have to live with it everyday

The fact that maybe, the love of my life has gone on a separate way

I love you

That much is true

I miss you

I really do

But I’m reminded of what we can’t have in times like these

I’m reminded that all I can hang on to are the memories

Because your hand isn’t there to hold anymore

I have to accept that things won’t go back to before.

A life without you, I don’t know what that’s like

But can you really blame me, when I expected to be with you for life?
