"JUST GIVE UP ALREADY!!"
He yelled at her.
She was kneeling at the precipice with her back to him. She carried a broken sword in her right hand. One of her black wings were cut off. Her dark blood gushed out from the wound. There were scratches and bruises all over her body. Her face had battle scars. Her frizzy hair flew in the wind.
He flew down and sat next to her.
"Please..Let me help you. Listen to me. Come away with me. I will take you to the Heavens. You'll have a perfect life there...with me. Trust me. There's no point in fighting to death like this. All I'm asking is to give me a chance. A chance to show you a life free of all this pain and hatred. If you'd only listen to me.."
She raised her face and looked him in the eyes.
He was unnaturally handsome. His grey eyes reflected peace and serenity. His pure white wings brushed against her shoulders. He had thick blond hair that swayed in the wind.He was perfect. An Angel in every sense.
Her fiery red eyes stared into his soul. A scornful smile spread across her lips.
"So..I sell you my soul and you reward me with Paradise? How generous! That is some fair trade. Seriously, how naive can you be? I don't blame you. You were created to be like that. But do you really think you can decieve me with your empty promises?"
"No, that's not what I meant. I'm just trying to–"
"–to help me. I know. I really love the way you hold concern for me. I know you are trying hard to convince me. I wish if I could understand you. But you cannot change what I am. No one can. I am the Evil. I'm wicked, vile and sinful. And you're too good. I cannot fit in your world. You'll only make yourself unholy by joining me. You've done more than enough. Now it's on me."
His eyes welled up. He bowed his head in disappointment.
She too felt the sadness growing inside her. But she had to shake it off. She had to be strong this time. For the ones she called family. For the place she called home. And above all, for him.
She knew his love for her would not end well. That he would be casted out the moment she enters his world. Moreover, she had to defend her family. Demons or not, they were still her own blood.
She lifted his face and kissed him on his forehead. For one moment, they wished if the world would forget them and if they could float away into nothingness.
She got up and whispered in his ear.
"Now let's finish what we started."
She took up her broken sword. He too, stood up and hesitantly picked up his sword. She smiled.
"Remember, it's either you or me."
He shook his head.
The next moment, she rushed towards him with her sword. Her sword almost missed his throat as he had dodged her strike and flew above. She was now standing with her back to him. He regained his consciousness and flew towards her. She didn't turn back or respond. She knew she had to fail this time. He reached just behind her and pushed his sword deep into her heart.
She gasped. When he saw what he had done, out of shock, he pulled te sword out. She fell on her knees and sat on the ground. Blood spurted out from her wound.
He stood watching helplessly as she struggled to breathe. Slowly, she fell on the ground and writhed in agony. She looked at him and drew her last breath, her eyes asking for forgiveness from him. Then it was over. So quickly.
He felt numb. He watched it all in stupefaction. He couldn't understand who died now; was it her or him? He felt like a part of him was torn away. He was in deep anguish. And he couldn't do anything to lessen the pain.
Then he noticed that her body had started burning. The fire in her eyes had started to eat her body. He moved towards her and took her in his arms. The flames burned him too. But it didn't matter to him. There was much more pain inside him.
Gradually, the flames caught on his wings. It was only a matter of moments before it turned into ashes. He didn't stir. She had suffered more than that.
The fire spread across his body. He hugged her even tighter and tried not to scream.
Steadily, the fire engulfed and consumed them.
He didn't utter a cry of pain. There was complete silence. The universe watched mournfully, as if the last speck of love was burning away from the face of earth. Only time, with its frozen heart, seemed to move forward.
All that remained was a heap of ash. A mixture of black and white ash. The wind carried it away, hoping to spread love across the world with it.
It wasn't their battle to win or lose.
But lamentably, Angels and Demons were not supposed to fall in love.
