When my father’s tears
Tell so much more than his words
This is what I fear most
To feel pain and weakness surge into my bones
Would I want to know the negative?
Or would I rather stay unsure?
Like a man who has a problem
And would solve for the missing x
Or like a kid running
With no worries nor fear of falling
“I love you, my child,” she’d always say.
“I love you too,” I never said.
If I knew then what I knew now
Would I trade everything I have?
To let the future be kept at bay
Just to relive the moment
Without taking a second for granted
Time heals everything, is a lie
‘Cause it gets more painful by and by
Scars causing great tribulation
That torments more than a fresh wound
Made me grow taller, bigger than before
But the child in me
Never left my poor benighted soul
Asking for one last time
To be held in her mother’s embrace
“I love you,” the last thing she said.
“I love you most,” I should’ve said.
Losing someone who's not yours to lose. Longing for someone that's not yours to long for.
