Denial - Agelessness and beauty

Info

Reading this title, you would have probably guessed here is another list of ingredients to preserve your beauty and restore it back to how it was 10 or 5 years back and look younger. The use of castor oil or baking soda, only to realise that these were the home-made remedies used by your grandmother and since before that. Well, I am not here to provide you with a tiring list.

The basic trait of human nature as described by Karl Marx in 1845 (www.cato.org), is that "a change in the 'ensemble of social relations', can 'change the human essence.'" This means that when our surroundings change, we tend to change. You must think it is common knowledge, well it is. It is just the other part of BB creams and facials and our favourite mani-pedis that tend to take us a step above this belief and common knowledge. We tend to fight reality by using different means and fantasising about the possibilities to avoid a confrontation with reality.

The main part is that amongst all this, we tend to leave our acceptance behind. As a daughter, I have often seen my mother struggle with the acceptance of her middle-agedness. This is usually aided to with the hair dyes. The ugly truth behind this is that you feel better but at the cost of yourself. It is said that time is very powerful, it has the strength of turning things to dust. We are also the collateral damage of this horrendous truth. Dust to dust, ashes to ashes. But never once we agree to work with time, we do not know how to embrace it. The only time I have seen this to happen is when the old parents are sent to old age homes, for their own safety and happiness. The most hilarious piece of this puzzle is that younger girls want to look more mature and mature women want to regain youth. So basically, we do not want to move out of post-teenage adulthood. Have you ever wondered why? Why is it that only some time back, white skin was the only symbol of beauty? Why is it that we cant embrace ourselves? The answer is simple, we have never been taught to do so. The books of antonyms for children describe beautiful and ugly as white and brown women, respectively only to disrespect a whole race. The incandescent struggle to achieve otherwise and being better never ends. The only paradox here is what is better? Is it the better you have set for yourselves or is it the better the business industries have set? The thing we fear here is the fear of not being accepted; the fear of falling behind the world only to be left alone. And this, thanks to the instant share, likes, and comments has brought us together, only to create a fake global village of people who are closer to their phones and chargers than the person sitting next to you on the bus, also doing the same thing. With more rights now, we fear even more.

The want to be loved and to belong has taken us to another level of self-doubt that is covered up in layers of primers and foundations, to conceal our true feelings. We are truly puppets on the stage of life. It is just that the marionette is not god, it is the industries. The other amazing trait we have developed is that we tend to dominate, maybe not aggressively but yes, we do. The stereotypes add to the humour of this. Blondes are to be considered dumb, and brunettes are intelligent. The 'prettier' the girl is, the dumber she must be. and the football player must not have been a good student, a jock. This clear differentiation is great but is applied in the wrong place. Human nature has been studied scientifically since Simon Freud discovered the power of therapy. It has not been untangled even now, and we, the common people, tend to solve it just by a glance.

Embrace the complexity and complection of your own self and others. Only then you will be able to be. The grays of your hair is not the symbol of only your age but also your wisdom. The wrinkles are not only loose skin but also the smile lines. These do not need surgery or remedy but a smile in front of the mirror to agree we have grown now. It is not retirement but peace with one's mind.

yours truly
