Mental Health

Info

I bumped into a podcast series started by medical professionals that made me re-think the way we look at mental health. First hand experience of a mental trauma is really different from what an observer sees it. It is easy to give advice on mental health than actually dealing with it. tor While I was imbibing all this I got to know about the untimely demise of a really successful Indian actor which shook me to a different level. I realized money, fame, followers do not necessarily add to real happiness. People can still crave validation and fell unfulfilled when denied that validation.

Mental health, talking about it is seen as a taboo in many parts of the society. It is high time we realize that like our body needs help when unwell, similarly our mind also needs to be taken care of from time to time. Scars and wounds need not be visible always for us to feel the pain. At times the pain is felt but we neglect just because there are no visible wounds. It is a personal responsibility of every individual to look into mental health from time to time.

We as a society need to learn to empathize with mental health of others. If not we will continue taking issues of others people for granted. We need to be more observant of people around us. This is least what we can do for our near and dear ones id to ask them "Are you okay?" and lending a genuine patient ear to listen to them. Being there for each other during the lows in life not only makes us emotionally intelligent, but also strengthens our bond with our loved ones. This way we can emerge as a mentally healthy society.
