One Last Time

Info

Under the clear blue sky and falling amber leaves,

He sat on the ground, heart full of love and grief.

Glistening with unshed tears were those eyes of his,

And yet there was a divine smile playing on his lips.

Heedless of his ambiance, reminiscing the lovely past,

His heart ached for the time that did not last.

Still lost in the thoughts, his heart beat rose,

He knew it was her, right behind and close.

There she stood with affection in her eyes,

Looking at his back, her heart silently cries.

Stepping forward slowly, she took a deep breath,

Quivering soft lips, familiar feelings arose from depth.

Warmth of her hands spread through him as she touched,

His eyelids became heavy, and his heart lurched.

All the memories from the past rushed to his mind,

Remnants of the time, too brutal and too kind.

The contact left her shivering, she felt the jolt,

The sudden wave of emotions, too much to control.

Her knees felt weak, almost folded when he turned,

Her heart leapt a beat, her stomach peacefully churned.

He felt giddy and euphoric, looking at her pretty face,

He reminded himself to control his breathing pace.

Intense urge to feel, to touch and to hold her rose,

It took all he had to control the impulse to get close.

Her pulse was frantic, she could hear it in her ears,

She loved him too much it turned to pain which sears.

Nothing came out of her mouth as she tried to speak.

When she tried again, her voice came out bleak.

He noticed her cheeks slowly turning red,

“you look lovely when you blush” once he had said.

Seeing her making effort to speak, he smiled,

When nervous she always behaved like a child.

Sighting his beautiful smile, she relaxed a little,

Chaos of emotions inside a complicated riddle.

She smiled too and gracefully extended her arm,

The sensation of his hand in hers then a calm.

A soothing wave suddenly washed over him,

The feeling filled with the bliss up to the brim.

Not wanting to leave her hand just yet,

He looked down to where their hands met.

She looked content to just hold his hand,

But back to reality, she had to land.

She was not his, and he was not hers,

The punishing reality, she had to suffer.

The agony of his heart, no different from hers,

Stabbing at his chest, his fate a cruel curse.

He finally let go of her hand, reluctantly,

His heart shattered, looking at him expectantly.

No longer touching him, her hands trembled,

Fabricating a smile, her thoughts she assembled.

Following his hand gesture, she walked along,

The silence between, more beautiful than a song.

He felt elated and sad, a fact that he did not hide,

Walking along the waterfront, with her by his side.

Kept thinking if he could still scoop her in his arms,

Swarm her with kisses, that were her lucky charm.

She felt rejuvenated and pathetic, with him so close,

Pulling herself to him, were the sparkling eyes those.

A walk down the memory lane, was where she traveled,

All the beautiful memories, in front of her unfurled.

He knew exactly where her mind wandered,

Their past the only place, both always sauntered.

Slowly, he placed back, her soft hand in his,

Together lost in the moments, they desperately miss.

She felt her hand, soothingly sliding into his,

And suddenly she was back in time truly bliss.

She clenched his hand too tight in her grip,

Too afraid to let the love go out of slip.

But they both knew better, time is already gone,

Still the crushing reality, chilled them right to bone.

Amid their trip to past, clear blue sky turned to utter dark,

Stars scattered in black, cold breeze bearing similarity stark.

Stopped along the bank, both turned to face the truth,

Hazy with the memories, profound love of early youth.

Threatening to come out, tears lining the border of eyes,

Unmistakable was the attraction, how hard the fate tries.

Tears spilled out, as they both uncurled their holding hand,

Precious emotions coming out, drenching the barren sand.

So much there was, they both wanted to say and do,

But their fate the only thing, neither of them can undo.

Wrapping arms around each other, they had a last hug,

Already broken and sore, sweetly painful heart strings it tug.

Parting their ways they left, not extending the inevitable further,

But their hearts full of love, they still left with one another.
