This Burden

I left a certain place, 

for I know I cannot face, 

certain accusations and questions 

with a brave heart. 

I may look passive but wounds can penetrate deep into my heart, 

a hole large enough to consume. 

I have come back, 

not to claim a place that was once mine, 

but I believe I have the courage to face the crowd. 

I feel forgotten, 

I feel abandoned. 

I do not understand this sullen feeling 

that has anchored my heart 

to a bottomless pit. 

But I believe I must go on,

even the brightest star must be covered by the clouds, 

even the fiery sun in its glorious rise must fall, 

even the serene moon must be shrouded in eclipse, 

and even the most beautiful flower must be withered. 

I believe this struggle is a test for sanity, 

whether or not ego has fully consumed this hole I call a heart.
