Those deep impactful eyes

Info

I looked into your eyes
And saw oceans
Blue
And green
Filled with dark nights and happy mornings
Filled with deep, bright secrets
And memories fresh and old
With a happy face which were told.

I looked into your eyes
And noticed care
Beyond imagination
Warmth, beyond scope
And love, beyond experience.

I looked into your eyes
And saw support
In times hard,
A presence on my arms,
To stop me from falling
Day after day after day.

I looked into your eyes
There was promise
Of years beyond infinity
Promise of futures unseen
Days unraveled
Personalities unthinkable.

I looked into your eyes
And saw… pain
Of events untold
Of secrets hidden from the world
But for me which would unfold
Pain, of the past
Affecting the present
And, I saw the urge to make this world,
My world... a happier place
Despite the flaws and the mess we both were
Despite letting things affect
What could have been
As we called it, perfect.

I looked into your eyes
And saw something I had never seen before
The behaviour I had never experienced before
The care, I had never expected before.

But that day,
When I looked into your eyes
I couldn't look for long
The promises, the care, the likeness,
It wasn't the same
The attraction wasn't the same
Neither were the feelings.

Hence, I looked away
For I wasn't capable of having the same look in mine
I looked away
Because hurting you, again, wasn't something that chimed
With the personality you were
And are
And will be.

So, I stepped back
From what we became
I stepped back
From making a mistake
I stepped back from hurting you ever again
For the distance we had travelled
Wasn't huge, but wasn't small either
I stepped back
For looking in the mirror had become a task tough
It wasn't easy, for the road to originality was rough
You said, out of hurt, that I would forget it all in a quickie...
I don't blame you
But Sir, hurt and pain, they're never one way
And I say this after years
When, now, you and I have walked different paths
When you and I have led different lives
When you and I have become different individuals
And have left behind
Something pure and devastating
And started something fresh
Something I call mine
Something different, which you call yours
Something, we individually call our new beginnings.
