We Don't Talk Anymore

Dear best friend,
                           
What has happened to us? It's been months since we last talked. We used to be inseparable. But things have changed now. Even when we see each other across the street you just smile and I too reciprocate with the same fake smile that I've been using for these past few months. You don't rush towards me anymore to tell me about the exciting things that you discovered or to tell me of the times you embarassed yourself. I lack the courage to ask you directly about the cause of this sudden change for fear that it will make things worse.

Do you remember the countless times we vowed never to leave each other's sides? To always be "bffs" ? But now with each passing day we grow apart just a little bit more. I yearn to talk to you at the end of each day like I used to but my ego forbids me from messaging you first. But on days that I do message you I'm only left with a few cold responses. We no longer call each other with funny names that would even embarass the people around us.

I replay all of our conversations in my mind trying to figure out what's causing this rift. But I'm clueless. I remember the happy times. The times when we would stick together through thick and thin. The secrets, big moments,  achievements, failures all that I've shared with you will always be special to me. You will always be special to me. You may have replaced me but I'll never be able to replace your place in my life. I hope this turns out to be just a temporary patch in our friendship and I'm overthinking like usual.
