Turning a few words into a phrase, into a meaningful sentence, into a beautiful para, into a heart racing chapter, into an exquisite story and the rush you feel when you give your own emotions openly to another character with nothing to expect in return but selfless love, and the joy of becoming that person entirely...that is why I write.
The ironic thing is, I love writing so much, that I can't put it into words.
But I'll try my best.
As a writer, there's nobody I respect more than another artist. Artists are complex, they're deep, they're sensitive and they have a certain ability to look at things like no one else does. Yes, it's true that artists make art to express their emotions in the only way they best know how to. But have you ever thought, that's exactly why they're the most real people you'll ever find?
I think we all agree that no matter how easy or open minded people we might claim to be...we all wear masks.
But, a painting, or a story, or music is an artist's way of removing that mask. And that requires some guts, doesn't it?
We put all our biggest insecurities, fears and troubles into our characters and all those emotions are just a mirror of what we truly feel. When we write...it's like our hands are telling all our secrets that our minds will always be too damn scared to accept.
We make art to escape. We make art when we realise that the saddest part about this life is that even though we're all humans brought to this world with the same ultimate goal, with the same potential, same emotions, same- from head to toe, we all choose to be ignorant of one and other. We choose to wear a mask and laugh at or attack anyone who is bold enough to take it off.
We make art when we realise it's the only thing that will truly connect us to people. To their hearts and not just their masks.
Writing is not just...for fun. That's such a satirical way of expressing it. Writing is bigger than that. It is something else for me.
I can be whomever I want to be.
Or can be exactly who I am- my deepest, truest form.
But that's not the best part.
The most magical thing is I can be the best version of myself that I wish to be.
And somehow, I won't be a liar even though that's exactly what I'll be doing.
Somehow, I won't be a hypocrite even though I write things for my characters that I might never follow in reality.
Somehow, I can be whomever I want to be.
This is my mask and by sharing a story with you, I'm taking it off.
We create our own suffocation, and we can't escape it until we accept it.
42Why don't we love ourselves just as much as we used to? What happens to us as we grow up?
