Shivers ran down my spine as the late night breeze swept through my body. I gazed at the mountains painted lapis lazuli with the light blue sky looming over. The town lights glittered like stars in that starless night. Inspired by the scenery, I wanted to paint. Soft, velvet fur brushed my thighs accompanied by a wet kiss. He knew. Sensing my solidarity, he went behind me, laid down and watched. The past few events run across my mind as I closed my eyes. With each passing memory, my heart felt heavier. My eyelids fluttered open and stared at the eroded cliff. I can hear car engines roving as it passed the cemented road below. Maybe, just maybe; nails tapping on the plastic armchair as I pondered. Thirty, fifty, ……….. a hundred and ninety-five seconds passed, I rose and slowly walked to the edge. It pipped down. No more flashing headlights and irritating engine sounds. I was dangerously close, maybe a spirit might push me or something. Ah , my town and its superstitions.
Tears threatened to form around my eyes as anxiety coaxed me. Closing my eyes, I gave a huge sigh then I felt normal. No tears, no shaking hands, yet the shivers stayed. I care not. I don’t want to feel. It was supposed to exhilarating, frightening. I was a couple of steps to Death’s door. It felt like I was in a kiddie slide with a soft cushion waiting at the end, not a 50 meter drop that may mean death or paralysis. I stood there for a good ten minutes staring at the gloomy sky and twisted town. I turned around to go back to the house. Suddenly sand, soil and rocks went tumbling down. The ground gave up. And I guess, Fate did on me too.
