February, A Month-Long Story [6/28]

Info

Writer's Note: For some reason, I was able to finish this part today. I had a lot of free time at work, and I'm glad I was able to finish this entry up to where it ended here. If you're reading this and have been reading the whole series from the start, as always, I am grateful. :)

(On a side note, I hope you don't get confused by the year used, the story is set 3 years ago, that's why the date mentioned at one point is 2014)

This is the sixth entry of a month-long story for February.
[6/28] It Doesn't Always Work That Way

---

Feb. 6, 2017 [6/28]

I went and ran after her, but I couldn’t seem to close the distance between us. She only seemed to get farther and farther despite the fact that she was only walking. I tried calling out to her, but no sound came out of my mouth. She suddenly stopped walking and I finally caught up to her.

“Hey, you forgot your-

Before I could finish my sentence, a loud buzzing sound
pierced through the sky.

I woke up.

02/06/14

I was awakened by the loud ringing of my phone’s alarm. I grabbed it without looking and groggily turned it off with one eye half asleep and then placed it back on the nightstand beside my bed. It was just a dream.

But what happened yesterday, wasn’t.

I sat up and stared at the handkerchief on my desk right where I left it after I got home. It still smelled like flowers combined with a distinct scent that I could only guess was from her perfume which still faintly lingered. It had a pleasant aroma that I was unfamiliar with.

I’ve been hanging out at that place for almost two years now, and nobody has ever been there (well, not when I was around at least). A part of me wishes that she would come back there today, and a part of me wishes she wouldn’t. I was never really good at starting up conversations with people I knew nothing about, especially with people I find quite intriguing.

I didn’t know exactly what I felt about her, but I was sure that it wasn’t love. That’s not how love works in the real world, and whatever this was, I wouldn’t dare dream to doom it by labeling whatever’s happening right now as “Love”. The most I can call this situation is a serendipitous culmination of unfound fascination. Oh, and did I mention that it wasn’t love?

Today was a Thursday, and for all I cared about that only meant three things.

One, it was a school day and I had classes.
Two, today was another chance to look for airplanes.
And three, was that I only had two more days before the contract expires.

My first class was scheduled to start at 10 AM, and I was already running late as it was. I prepared for school and grabbed my bag to head out, but not before taking her handkerchief with me. Who knows? I might run into her, and it would be something to open up a conversation at least.

I went through the whole day as scheduled. I saw no sign of her, and the airplanes had eluded me again. I finished our last class and decided to pass by my secret hideout, hoping to see her there despite how low the chances of that happening might be.

I stayed there for about two hours before realizing that it was already dark out, and that there was no good reason for her to come around here at that time. I decided to go home.

On the bus ride home I kept looking out the window inadvertently hoping that maybe there would be a plane in the sky. I almost didn’t realize that the bus was already at my stop.

I went inside my room, had dinner, got changed, and did my assignments.
I looked at the time on my laptop after finishing the last one.

11:11

There’s a famous saying that when you see these numbers you should simply make a wish and it will come true. Some people claim that when this number is seen it means that there is some kind of window opening up in your life.

“It’s worth a shot” I said to myself.

“Okay 11:11, I wish that I would see an airplane in the night sky

before the clock strikes 12 tonight.

I climbed out on my room’s balcony. It was already nearing midnight, and I was on the lookout for signs, but midnight came and not one plane was sighted.

“Guess it doesn’t always work like that.”

I decided to call it a day and hit the hay.
