Perfection

You are really beautiful but....

you still need to lose a few pounds

And you will be perfect.

You are really intelligent but....

you still need to score higher

And you'll be perfect.

You are a really amazing writer but....

you still need to acquire depth to portray your emotions

And you'll be perfect.

You are a really great singer but....

you still need to bring forth a certain force in your voice

And you'll be perfect.

And in trying to impress those people,

 who only gave compliments just,

to turn them into harsh criticism with those 'buts'.

And in trying to be the epitome of perfection,

As portrayed by those peers,

who only wanted to pull me down.

Somewhere, I lost my true self 

In trying to be someone else's mundane idea

Of a perfection which doesn't really exist....
