Sometimes Poets Lie

When poets write about letting go, their words may seem so tough

The lines may tell the story of  how they've had enough

The rhymes may sound like its the last time you'll ever hear them cry

But sometimes in their fervent poems, many poets lie

Some poets write of how they hope for their next love to arrive

Because sometimes it's the only way they think they will survive

Some even say their last goodbye to the person they desire

Yet at times in their heartfelt poems, many poets lie

Some poets use their poetry as a protective guard

To remind them they should let go of that someone that they love

Some use poems to let loose of the tears they cannot cry

Because there are also poets who in their poems never lie

While writing their pieces I know all poets try to be sincere

But when they finish there are lines they can never seem to adhere

There are also some who in their poems say they have finally let go

But after writing they once again think of the love they used to know

There's nothing wrong with convincing oneself that you're finally fine

And nothing's wrong with hiding hurt in your poem's every line

It's not a mistake to say you're fine though not sure if you really are

For in letting go lying to yourself sometimes help you cope by far

Sometimes when a poet lies, it's not for a trick or deceit

When poets lie they don't do it to mislead, delude or cheat

Often it's for self assurance and encouragement

For them to finally let go of the hurt they have once felt

If I'll be asked what kind of poet I suppose I have become

I won't know what to answer maybe I'll just stare and mum

Because while writing my poems I really mean every word I say

But there are times that I doubt I will fail in any way

Maybe it doesn't matter because my poetry is mine

And as long as I don't bring others harm I'm sure it will be fine

Poets write to express and share their thoughts from deep within

So even if they sometimes lie it's theirs so just let them be

They don't always say the things they mean and mean the things they say
